Fundraising Committee Update
We can’t believe Term 1 has finished already! The Fundraising Committee have been pretty quiet so far this year - due to current restrictions we unfortunately haven’t been able to hold our usual events for parents and students. Hopefully conditions will improve and we can have some fun while raising funds in Term 2.
This week we are launching our WPPS Wine Drive. We have some fabulous wines and gin at great prices. These can be ordered on QKR! or using the paper form (link below, and copies are available from the school Front Office). Orders need to be in by Sunday 8th May (end of Week 1, Term 2) and the wine will be ready for collection from the school on Friday 13th May. So don’t forget to put your wine order in over the holidays! And as always, orders from family and friends are very welcome too. Go on, you deserve it!
We are thrilled to see the new Nature Play area in Yard C and the renovations in Marlborough building progressing at the moment - these are two major projects that parents have generously donated to through school fundraising in the past few years. The students can’t wait to start using and enjoying them!
We hope everyone has a nice Easter long weekend. Stay safe, enjoy the chocolates and we'll see you next term!
Dates to Remember …
Sunday 8th May – Final day for Wine Drive orders
Monday 9th May 7:00pm – Next Committee Meeting (held in the WPPS Staff Room)

Terracycle
It’s on again and Westbourne Park PS is currently on
top of the Australian leader board!
TerraCycle has partnered with Colgate® and Chemist Warehouse to give seven lucky schools in Australia the chance to win a community garden kit for their school grounds. You can win everything you need to create a little ecosystem in your school and teach your students about how flowers, plants and insects work together to grow our food.
Between 24th February - 31st October 2022, Australian pre-, primary, intermediate, special and secondary schools are invited to join our recycling program for oral care waste and vote for their school to earn Garden Points.
The more units of oral care waste recycled and the more votes for our school, the better our chance of winning. Please cast your vote at:

School holidays may be a perfect opportunity to clean out your bathroom drawers and bring in your old toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes (heads only), empty toothpaste tubes and dental floss containers. Our collection station can be found outside of LC4 or you may drop your recycling at the front office.
Thank you and happy recycling,
Christina Stevens - LC4
Fresh Bites Canteen Update
Thank you to all who have supported the canteen during Term 1, be it through recess or lunch orders, Pancake, Harmony and Gelato Day purchases or by volunteering your time.
It has been great to see the return of volunteers to the canteen. Your assistance ensures we can deliver a wide variety of food options for the children. Thank you also to those who have recently expressed an interest in volunteering.
As communicated at the commencement of the year the canteen is now open 5 days a week for both recess and lunch orders, plus over the counter sales of snacks.
Our Term 2 Menu will see the return of some favorites suited to the cooler months - pasta, soups, curries and baked potatoes. Be sure to check out the Lunch Specials tab in Qkr! for daily and weekly specials.
An updated menu will be circulated at the commencement of Term 2.
Should you have any feedback or suggestions for the canteen please feel free to email wpps.canteen286@schools.sa.edu.au

What's happening in Performing Arts
We are working on some incredible things!
This term students have come up with ideas for stop motion animations based on the works of others (e.g. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle) or from their own imaginations.
They have planned their lists of materials, created storyboards and made their characters, props and backgrounds.
They have put together their animations using the ‘Stop Motion’ app. Some of these will include music and sound effects.
It’s amazing to see what kids from Reception through to Year 6 can come up with.
See photos and click the link below to see some of their work.
Enjoy.

Pedal Prix State Election Day Thankyou
Thank you to all who stopped by on their way to or from the polling booth at the recent state election. Your support of our Pedal Prix Racing Team BBQ & Bake Sale fundraiser was greatly appreciated. It was wonderful to see so many familiar school families past & present.
A HUGE thank you to those who donated delicious baked goods, Toby Richardson APEX Steel Supplies (SA) who donated ingredients for the egg & bacon sandwiches and to the tireless group of volunteers who worked from the early hours cooking the BBQ & serving customers. Activities such as this cannot be achieved without the amazing support of our volunteers and school community.

Social Media Starter Kit for Parents and Carers
Meeting people and interacting online is common place in the world that we live in. We are seeing a growing trend of younger children engaging on different Social Media platforms. Many of these young people and their parents/carers are unaware of the risks of interacting with others online. Attached is a Social Media Starter Kit for Parents and Carers that contains some very useful information.
“It includes advice on what to consider when creating social media accounts, potential challenges relating to certain features on social media, as well as tips and advice for ongoing social media use to prevent online child sexual exploitation”.
If you are able we would appreciate you distributing this to parents/carers that are part of your school community.

Community Noticeboard
Dear Friends,
It’s that time of year again when we are on the search for some amazing volunteers to help out with this year’s Salvos Red Shield Appeal.
The Red Shield Appeal is the Salvos signature fundraising drive, which helps fund our vast network of social and community services that vulnerable Australians rely on every day. The Salvos provide shelter for the homeless; provide hearty meals, assists families in crisis through practical support and financial counselling, and so much more.
Each year from end of April to May/June we raise $80,000+ with our annual Red Shield Appeal through a range of collection activities such as door-knocking, football home-game gate collection, shopping centre collection and online fundraising through personal Red Shield Appeal Fundraising Pages.
This year we hope to raise even more - and help even more people! To make this happen - we need YOU as volunteers are an absolutely vital part of our fundraising drive.
If you think you can help, there are two main ways to do so:
- 1. If you would be willing to spare a few hours of your time to volunteer collecting at a shopping centre, football gate or to door-knock, that would be amazing and we would be so appreciative of your help. To register please contact Mark Foyle,
M: 0407 873 177 or E: foyle@salvationarmy.org.au
- 2. Alternatively, if you can’t volunteer any of your time but still want to help, you can register as a fundraiser for Unley Salvos online and set up your own personal Red shield Appeal Fundraising Page.
This can be done via the link below.
https://community.salvationarmy.org.au/unley-salvos
Clicking on the above link will take you to the Unley Red Shield Appeal page, from there click the red “JOIN TO FUNDRAISE FOR US" button which will take you to Sign Up page and follow the prompts to register.
As an online fundraiser, you can email as many people as you want, to let them know you are supporting the Red Shield Appeal (Unley) and to ask them to make a donation. You can also make use of LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram etc. On your page, you can also add your own personal story or statement in support of the Red Shield Appeal.
Thank you so much for your time and hopefully, we’ll get some of you on board for this year's Red Shield Appeal - the Unley Salvos and the vulnerable members of your community would be so appreciative of your help!
Best Regards,
Unley Salvos, PH: 271 2839
