Year 4 Woodhouse Adventure Camp
What an amazing camp! You all should be proud of the outstanding behaviour of these students. The Woodhouse activity camp coordinator complimented Westbourne Park students on their beautiful manners and enthusiasm to try different activities which were outside their comfort zone.
I would like to thank our wonderful volunteer parents, Kane Winther, Katy Nadebaum, Emma Jacka and Theo Sasopoulos for giving up their time to help at camp. Your help, support and your contribution were much appreciated.
I have seen the year 4 students engage in new experiences and take on challenges, build up their resilience and work together as a team. It is a great opportunity to work with students outside the traditional classroom setting.
Well done!
Josie Brown
Feedback from students:
This year we went to Woodhouse for camp it was really fun we did lots of activities, my favourite was probably tube sliding. We still did lots of other fun stuff like pioneering, challenge hill, the labyrinth maze and more. I really liked the dorms they were very comfortable, for one of the night activities we did a fashion show which was pretty funny. We also watched some good movie both nights. All of the meals were delicious, but all of this wouldn’t be possible without all the lovely teachers and parent helpers so thank you this was a very fun camp and I had a very good experience. This year we went to Woodhouse for camp. My favourite activity in camp was the tube sliding and Challenge Hill, especially the rope swinging over the creek, we also did many other activities like Pioneering and the Labyrinth. The meals were excellent and the dorms were very comfortable. At night we had a fashion show where we made costumes out of newspapers and the models had to walk the run way, it was very funny we also watched a movie each night. Camp wouldn’t be possible without the help from all the lovely parent helpers. All in all camp was a very fun experience! By April
My favourite thing at camp was the tube slide I really liked that on the strait course you could go with a partner. I also really liked the food I really enjoyed the bacon and eggs. The dorms where nice I really liked the bunk beds and the first night, we had to make newspaper costumes and have a fashion show my favourite costume was newspaper man. The Laser skirmish was also really fun and I also would like to thank the parents, educators and staff for all their hard work to make camp happen. By Robert
My favourite activity at camp was the tube slide, it was a giant hill that we had to drag a heavy tube up the whole hill. The food was so good the first night for dinner we had a barbecue with sausages and marinated steak and chicken. For breakfast the next day we had bacon and eggs on toast. We even had a fashion show before we watched a movie and we had to make clothes out of newspaper. And both nights we watched a movie first night we watched Shaun the Sheep and the second night we watched Mr Bean’s holiday. And I’d like to say thank the parents who volunteered. By Harvey
The Living Kaurna Cultural Centre and the Warriparinga Wetlands
In Week 4, M3, M6 and M7 visited the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre and the Warriparinga Wetlands. We built upon our inquiry learning about ‘being more sustainable’, in particular looking at Indigenous perspectives on how to take care of and utilise natural resources from the land. We learned about Kaurna history and culture in the Warriparinga area and had the opportunity to explore the wetlands. We also learned about bush tucker and weaving natural materials from Kaurna leaders. They even welcomed us to the area with a traditional smoking ceremony and by placing a smear of ochre on our foreheads. It was a fantastic day of rich learning! Niina marni!
Westbourne Park Community Centre Fairy Garden
Year 3 students from LC3 and LC4 linked up with the Westbourne Park Community Centre to create a wonderful fairy garden. They painted all the different elements that were to go into the garden over a couple of weeks, and this week, they chose a special spot for them in the garden. It was a truly wonderful opportunity and joyful experience for our students to be a part of this inter-generational project, whilst creating something magical for the whole community to enjoy. Please take the opportunity to visit the garden at the community centre to see all the fabulous creations.

Casual Day
Thank you to our very generous WPPS families for the wonderful wool donations as part of our Week 5 Casual Day. Student and School Leaders delivered the donations with a smile to the Cumberland Park Community Centre this morning. Members were beaming with joy and expressed their gratitude for the wool that has been donated. They plan to make as many blankets as possible and donate these to various charities. We can't wait to see what they create!
Book Fair
Thank you to all the students, parents and staff for being so generous once again with supporting the Autumn Book Fair. By purchasing books and stationery, you helped us to receive enough rewards to buy new books for the library. It was wonderful to see the students so excited to visit the Book Fair.
You all helped to make the Book Fair a huge success!
Fundraising News!
Term 2 – News from the WPPS Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee have already been busy and hard at work this year. It has been wonderful to welcome some new members to the committee – it takes a team to make our events happen and we thank everyone on the committee for donating their time and effort.
In Term One, we held two very successful events with the Mix and Mingle and Friday Fun.
Mix and Mingle was held on the 22nd of March. A wonderful evening where parents were able to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones! Our welcoming and social school community extended to some of our Mid-Year Reception parents who also joined us. The event raised $574 to kick off our year of fundraising.
Friday Fun was held on the last day of Term One. The team worked very hard to organise the event for the children, and it was great to see so many parents enjoying the afternoon too. A big thank you to all the families who donated their time at the event, books, toys, lolly jars, baked goods and even Slushie Machines. Thank you to the Year 6 students for creating the Mini Golf and for joining in the fun at the Dunking Machine. A wonderful sunny afternoon that raised nearly $5000.
On Saturday the 22nd of June, we will hold our WPPS Quiz Night so gather a group to make a table and organise the babysitter! Our theme this year is “Time Travellers Ball” so now is the time to start thinking about those costumes and table decorations. Tickets are currently available in Qkr! and are sold as a table of 10 for $250. If you need some help to make up a table of 10 people or have any queries about tickets please email the Fundraising Committee.
We will run an Online Auction in conjunction with the Quiz Night itself again this year, as it gives all of our school community the opportunity to bid on some fantastic auction items. For those attending the Quiz Night, there will be the usual fun games and activities, plus access to some exciting bonus “Quiz Night Only” auction items on the night itself!
We are currently seeking donations of items to be used for our Online Auction that will conclude on the Quiz Night. POSSIBLE DONATIONS INCLUDE: Vouchers for professional services; bottles of wine; weekend stay at a holiday house; gift vouchers for retail goods; family activities, i.e. bowling, mini golf; gift hampers; sporting equipment; homewares and plants; autographed memorabilia; experiences, i.e. motorsport hot laps; jewellery; gym memberships; etc.
If you have items or connections to businesses that may be able to donate, please drop them to the office or email the Fundraising Committee (email below).
We will be starting Term Three with our Winter Wine Drive, so get ready to stock up for Winter. Later in the term, we will have our annual Disco, with separate sessions for younger and older students.
As always, thank you for your continued support and generosity. We wouldn’t be able to hold the events and activities we do without your help and it really is what makes WPPS such a great school community to be a part of!
Dates to Remember …
Wednesday 12th June – Online Auction opens for bidding – website details will be provided
Saturday 22nd June – 6:30pm – Quiz Night
Saturday – 9:00pm – Online Auction closes
