Westbourne Park Primary School Turns 110
Students first attended Westbourne Park Primary School on Monday 6th July 1914. The first registered student was Robert Frank Baxendale. Robert was born on 13th June 1900 and started at Westbourne Park Primary School in year 5. Robert was the youngest of 11 children in his family. The headmaster, Mr J.H. Snell, wrote in his journal – “opened the school with an attendance of 245”.
We currently have 465 students enrolled and at its height in 1958 and 1959 there were 1104 students attending with an average of 352 in the infant school and 752 in the primary school. Class sizes were over 50 and at times throughout the school’s history various churches in the area were used as classrooms. We look forward to continuing to build the story of Westbourne Park Primary School.
Yard B Playground!
The yard B playground has been completed and is just waiting for final inspection approval before it can be used. It is an impressive structure that has been designed to provide challenge, adventure and fun. The entire playground that was fundraised for and installed in 2019 has been included in this design (blue section) and is complemented by the new section which matches our nature colour scheme of monument and earth tones. The new section was designed in consultation with the students in 2021 when we had planned a playground for the area where the old pool was located. Along with a new shelter structure being installed soon, this section of our school will be popular and well utilised. We acknowledge the funding provided by the state government to complete this area along with Camco and Adventure+ for the installation and product.

Wakakirri
Wakakirri is just around the corner, and our students have been fully immersed in preparation—rehearsing, sewing costumes, crafting props, and painting masks for their rendition of Tarzan!
With this year's theme centered on 'Belonging,' we found no better story than Tarzan's epic journey, grappling with his identity as either human or gorilla.
We're excited to announce that Wakakirri will take place at the Norwood Concert Hall during week three of the upcoming term.
Best of luck to all our dedicated students taking part!
The Mark Wahlqvist Awards 2024
If you wonder what to do during the winter holiday, why don’t you enter the Mark Wahlqvist Awards!
In honour of Professor Wahlqvist (an old scholar) and his contributions and achievements, Westbourne Park recognises our students’ abilities in creativity and innovation by running the annual Mark Wahlqvist awards.
You can draw, paint, write, construct or create something out of anything your imagination allows you to do.
Get an entry form from the library and make sure you hand your creation in on Friday 9 August Term 3.
Pedal Prix
Congratulations to Westbourne Park Pedal Prix Racing Team who competed in a very soggy Victoria Park race. Students showed great skill and resilience battling heavy rain and did WPPS proud!
Huge thank you to our sponsors CNW Electrical and the families of Senouk and Matteo.
